Your Rights ; Your Voice!
At Buddhist Ladies’ College, Colombo
On the 4th of June, we had the incredible opportunity to engage with the bright young minds of Buddhist Ladies’ College, Colombo, through an educational lecture regarding “Law and Your Rights.” Held at the school premises, this initiative aimed to introduce students to fundamental legal concepts, their basic rights, and the importance of legal awareness in everyday life.
The session was designed to be both informative and interactive, encouraging students to think critically about the role of law in society and how it affects them personally. We covered key topics such as fundamental rights under the Sri Lankan Constitution, child rights, cyber safety, and the importance of understanding legal procedures.
One of our main goals was to bridge the gap between legal knowledge and practical understanding. We believe that empowering students with this knowledge not only helps them become responsible citizens but also gives them the confidence to stand up for themselves and others in the face of injustice.
The enthusiasm and curiosity shown by the students were truly inspiring. Many raised thoughtful questions and shared their own perspectives, turning the session into a lively discussion rather than just a lecture. It was heartening to see such a strong interest in legal awareness at such a young age.
We are grateful to the administration of Buddhist Ladies’ College for welcoming us and for recognizing the value of legal literacy as a part of holistic education. Special thanks also go to our organizing team who worked hard to make this event a success.
As future legal professionals and advocates of justice, we believe in the power of education and outreach. This event was a small but meaningful step in building a legally aware and empowered generation.
